You paste it once into the add-on, and it is verified inside your own Google account by checking its signature — there is no call to any server of ours, and nothing about you or your spreadsheets is transmitted anywhere. The key stays in your account; you can remove it yourself at any time. That is why this add-on can honestly claim that nothing leaves Google.
