Common questions

Nothing happens when I press Mark

Select some text first. Mark always uses whatever is selected at the moment you press it — the panel cannot watch your cursor, so it tells you what it found when you pressed. With nothing selected there is nothing to mark.

Will my highlights disappear if I remove the add-on?

No. Everything you mark is ordinary Google Docs highlighting — the same background colour the built-in pen applies. It stays in the document, collaborators see it without the add-on, and you can always remove it with Docs' own tools. The add-on adds the layer on top: named categories, counts, and the extract.

Where does Extract passages put the text?

At the end of your document, under a heading called Coded extract, grouped by category. The section is rebuilt each time you press the button — the section says so on itself — so keep your own notes above the line, not inside it. Nothing else in the document is touched.

The summary mentions highlighting "that is not one of your categories"

That is text highlighted in a colour outside the current palette — usually marked by hand or by another tool, or in a category you have since renamed. It is counted separately so you know it exists; the add-on never deletes or converts it on its own.

I marked the same text twice with different categories

The newer category wins: marking applies the new background colour over the old one. Use Remove highlight to take a passage out of every category.

Which features are free, and which are Pro?

Marking your selection, the six named categories, Remove highlight, passage counts and the extract are free permanently. Pro adds marking every match of a word or phrase at once, your own palette of categories saved across documents, and character counts showing how much of the document each category covers. If a Pro licence lapses, the free features carry on working.

How do I move my licence to another account?

Open the panel, press Manage, then Remove licence from this account. Paste the same key on the other account with I have a key.

Reviewing this add-on for Google?

The add-on needs no test credentials: it works on any Google Docs document, with no sign-in and no account of ours. To exercise the Pro tier, write to the address above from your review thread and we will issue a reviewer licence key the same day.
