Prism — Code Syntax Colour & Blocks

Paste a block of code, pick the language, and it comes back monospaced and coloured — keywords, strings, comments and numbers each in their own colour. Inside Google Docs™ and Google Slides™.

Free forever: syntax colouring for fourteen languages, the monospaced font, and one click to put the block back exactly the way it was. In documents and in presentations.

Colours that survive the hard cases

A highlighter that works on simple lines and breaks on real code is worse than none. Prism reads the block character by character, with state, so a keyword inside a string or a comment is not coloured as a keyword, an escaped quote does not end the string, and an unclosed quote — the apostrophe in “don't” — spoils at most its own line rather than the rest of the block. An unterminated block comment runs to the end instead of throwing. SQL is case-insensitive, and '' is an escaped quote, not the end of a string. Fifty-six checks cover exactly these cases, and every one of them has been deliberately broken to prove it would be caught.

What it does

Prism Pro

Block themes. A background behind the code: Paper (soft grey), Solarized (warm) or Midnight (dark). Choosing one without a licence is never silent — the block is coloured with the free Light theme and the panel says so. See Prism Pro →

One thing said plainly

Google Docs™ has no code box. The block themes paint a background behind the text, so it stops at the end of each line rather than at the page margin. If that matters to you, the free Light theme colours the code with no background at all.
