Rainbow does not send your document, or anything in it, anywhere. Nothing from your file is ever sent anywhere: there is no database and no analytics. Without a licence key the add-on makes no network request at all; with a Pro licence it asks our licence server once a day whether that key is still active, sending only the key and a random identifier for the installation.
Rainbow asks for exactly one permission:
| Permission | What it allows | Why it is needed |
|---|---|---|
documents.currentonly |
Read and change only the one document you opened Rainbow in, for as long as it is open. Google enforces this limit, not us. | To read the text you selected and set its colour and size. |
It cannot open your other documents, your Google Drive™, your mail or your calendar. It has no permission to make a network request, so it could not send your text anywhere even if it tried.
| What | Where | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Your licence key, if you have one | Your own Google account
(UserProperties) | So Pro stays unlocked for you on any computer. |
| The formatting that was in place before the last effect — colours and font sizes, as ranges of character positions | Your own Google account, keyed to that document | So “Put it back” can restore it. |
We never store the text you wrote. The undo record holds character positions, colour values and font sizes — no words. For upside-down text we store nothing at all: the operation is its own reverse.
Uninstalling the add-on from the Google Workspace Marketplace™ removes its access. To clear the licence key and the saved undo, remove the add-on and the properties stored in your account go with it. You can also write to us and we will confirm what is held for you, which is only ever the two rows above.
